A man goes to visit his friend and is amazed to find him playing chess with his dog. The dog watches his opponent's move, thinks for a moment, then moves his piece to the correct square.

The man is so flabbergasted that he watches the game for awhile before speaking. Finally he can stand it no more.

"I can hardly believe my eyes!" he exclaims. "That's the smartest dog I've ever seen."

"Nah, he's not so smart," the friend replies. "I've beaten him three games out of five."
