Synonymental
by Ed Mellon
Mentalists! Psychic entertainers! Ed Mellon's Synonymental allows you to apparently predict in advance not one but three future events!
This was the best-selling effect from among the many offered by Ed Mellon, who supplied mentalists and magicians the world over in the 1950s and 1960s. Now you can perform it, too!
The premise is simple. 18 printed words are laid out in three rows of 6 cards. Each card is different: there are no duplicates. A spectator places a pen or pencil on one of the cards in the first row. The rest of the cards are turned over and shown to be different.
Next, he is asked to lay a car key on any card in the second row. Again, the cards on each side are shown different. Then he is asked to throw a quarter on any card in the third row.
Yet when he turns over the card with the pencil on it, the card says "PENCIL," the card with the car key says "KEY" and the card with the coin says "Quarter."
A breathtaking triple climax!
And again, out of the entire collection of cards, there are no duplicates, and he has chosen the three with the name of his object laid on them! Other effects explained.
"You'll like this startling effect." (J. G. Thompson, Jr.)
Revised edition features three new chapters and five new illustrations.
