Paul Reed Smith DGT

Paul Reed Smith DGT Maple Top electric -- click for additional photos

Paul Reed Smith DGT - The DGT electric guitar is the result of more than 20 years of collaboration between Paul Reed Smith and David Grissom. The DGT is based on the McCarty Trem with special pickups, special wiring, a neck smaller than PRS' wide-fat neck, bigger frets and heavy-gauge strings that permit beautiful rhythm and solo tone. A proud endorser of PRS guitars, David Grissom has recorded and toured with Joe Ely, John Mellencamp, the Allman Brothers, The Dixie Chicks, and Buddy Guy, as well as with Storyville.

Featuring the famous PRS "dipped in glass" high gloss finish, the DGT is available in Black, Cherry Sunburst, Gold Top, and PRS Tobacco Sunburst vintage colors. DGT models feature a nitro lacquer topcoat.

Historical notes:

  • The PRS DGT model was introduced in 2007.
  • DGT stands for David Grisson Trem model.
  • Because David Grissom plays .011 gauge first strings, the PRS DGT ships with those, too.
David Grissom - 1997 PRS Ad2007 PRS magazine ad showing David Grissom playing his signature DGT model instrument(First photo:) David Grissom played a mahogany-bodied PRS Standard model guitar for many years, as shown in the 1997 Paul Reed Smith advertising piece.

David's continuous touring schedule playing PRS guitars led to the design of the DGT, which incorporates aspects of the Standard and McCarty models, with new pickups designed just for his signature model instrument.

(Second photo:) This 2007 Paul Reed Smith advertising piece proudly announces the new DGT model.
