About BRCAP:
Brett's Random Composer-Arranger-Producer
She really likes that song you wrote using BRCAP and wishes you would send me a guitar pick (see below)!

Why did I develop BRCAP?

BRCAP was designed to help songwriters, composers, and arrangers break out of their self-imposed boxes and develop new material. With the ever-increasing availability of home recording studios and software, it's easier than ever to get your ideas onto disc, iPod, or other medium. So while it's easier than ever to record new material, coming up with something worth recording can still be a chore. Sometimes you need a kick in the ass (I know I do!), and that's where BRCAP can help.

Using BRCAP is easy. Just click the page. The program goes through several million combinations and permutations of available parameters, makes a selection, then displays them through your web browser. If you like what you see, print the page. If you don't like it, click your browser's "refresh" button (or click the "Try Another?" link at the bottom of the page, and BRCAP will pick another set of random options for you to consider.

If, like many composers, you keep a notebook of ideas, you can press Alt + PrintScr to add a picture of the screen to your computer's clipboard. You can then paste the image into your Word Processor using Ctrl+V, Shift + Insert, or other command, depending on your particular computer and software. You can then keep an electronic notebook of BRCAP ideas to try on your next recording.

This project is purely a labor of love, with many exciting improvements planned for the near future. If you'd like to help, pass along the URL to a friend, or include it on your blog or myspace page. If you REALLY want to help, send me a guitar pick (see below).

Thanks!

What is Karmaware?

If you believe in Karma, send me a guitar pick. While I won't promise that you'll end up with a recording contract tomorrow, mysterious and wonderful things have happened to those who took a moment to say thanks. In return, you may see your band's name and home town on the BRCAP website!

The pick project: 8-20-2007How are the pick contributions coming along?

As of 12-15-2007, the pick bottle weighs in at 2 lbs. 15.5 oz. No one has sent me a pick in eight months.

Do the picks have to show my band's name?

No. Any pick will do.

How many should I send?

One pick helps a lot! If just 1 out of every 100 BRCAP users sent a pick, we'd have the bottle of karma filled to the rim in no time at all. Of course, if you really want to be nice, you could send me two or three!

How much do picks weigh?

Just for fun, I took out a postage scale and put an empty, legal sized (No. 10) envelope on it. Then I started adding guitar picks to it. After a dozen picks, the combined weight (envelope + picks) was still only half an ounce. Well within the 1 ounce weight limit for a single stamp.
