The EXCUSES are an energetic group of rock and rollers that are alumni of other Olympia and Seattle area rock bands. The founding members were Chris Simmons, Michael Swanson, Jeff Parkhurst, and Brett McCarron.
Bassist/vocalist Chris Simmons was a founding member of "FishLips". Guitarist/vocalist Michael Swanson was lead singer for "FishLips". Jeff Parkhurst was drummer for "Pilgrimage", "Linear Descent", and "Shiver". Lead guitarist Brett McCarron played in "Local Hero" and "The Mechanics".
Everything starts getting interconnected quickly when you figure that Swanson, McCarron, and Simmons were former members of "FishLips". Parkhurst, Swanson, Simmons, and McCarron were also veterans of "Plunge." And to further complicate matters, Parkhurst and McCarron went to the same high school (although they'd never been in a band together until now).
The EXCUSES Circa February 1996 (L-R): Brett McCarron (lead guitar, keys); Jeff Parkhurst (drums, vocals); Michael Swanson (guitar, vocals); Chris Simmons (bass, vocals) In January 2004, Jeff Parkhurst left to pursue his solo effort with his Rhythmic Transformation Station. Andy Etue was called in to provide drums and background vocals. Andy was formerly with The Toucans, a steel drum band, and has also played "regular" drums in various bands. He's made his presence felt in a relatively short time with The Excuses. Mike Keeling came aboard in February 2004 as the band's soundman extraordinaire. With Mike's expertise and finesse, the band has been able to make digital multitrack recordings of most of their live performances.
